What is 360 Feedback?

360-degree feedback is a powerful tool for creating awareness of an individual’s strengths and development areas by measuring performance against a range of key criteria.

Who would benefit from taking part in a 360 review?

Anyone who interacts with colleagues on a regular basis would benefit from gaining insight into the impact of their performance on those around them.

360-degree feedback is often used for managers and leaders to ensure that they get feedback from the perspective of their manager, a group of direct reports and a group of peers. This provides a well rounded view of the individual’s behaviours.

Why use 360 Degree Feedback?

Because it measures behaviours rather than personality traits, 360-degree feedback is an effective tool for improving results for the individual as well as for anyone they work with on a regular basis. This pragmatic approach provides improvements which have an impact on the bottom line for the organisation.

Confidentiality for direct report and peer reviewers is a key benefit of using 360- degree feedback. Knowledge that their feedback is presented anonymously in the final report gives reviewers the confidence to provide honest feedback without concern.

Many 360 solution providers can offer a range of competencies which allow for an easily tailored 360 to be created for even a small number of candidates. Reports should also be designed to provide clear insight without information overload.

Re-measuring after 12 or 18 months allows individuals to track their progress over time and in light of development programmes they have undertaken in the interim.

Gaining maximum value from 360-Degree Feedback

To be most effective a 360-degree feedback report should be incorporated into a development cycle. This can take the form of a workshop programme, a coaching programme, or at a minimum, a one-to-one feedback session. In each case, providing a structured action plan with an agreed review date will help to leverage the full potential of the 360 feedback process.

What does 360-Degree Feedback cost?

The cost of a 360 feedback programme should always be measured in relation to the benefits to be gained.  Choosing an experienced supplier with a customer-focused attitude who will provide support for you throughout the process is a good investment.
