Implementing coaching in your organisation

In the 3rd post of our coaching series we’re looking at considerations when implementing coaching in your organisation.

There needs to be a commitment to any coaching program implemented at all levels of an organisation, to gain this commitment there are key steps that you can take.

  • Meet with senior management to identify the organisations needs and gain commitment to coaching
  • Review the history of coaching in the organisation and any success and failures
  • Identify any budget available
  • Decide if coaching should be internal or external
  • confirm any resources or support available for the coaching program

Once a coaching program has been agreed and coaching candidates have been identified, run an introduction to coaching workshop, this should cover:

  • What is coaching?
  • The benefits of coaching
  • Who can be coached
  • Who will be coaching and why
  • Dispelling myths of coaching
  • Goal setting – for individuals and the organisation
  • Review and progress – when and what will they consist of
  • Timing – when will it start, how long will it go on

When the coaching program is up and running ensure that there are regular reviews with both the coaches and the individuals to ensure that the coaching is working as intended and doesn’t need any adjustment.

In next weeks coaching post we will be looking at team coaching.
