Some people are naturally morning people, and others feel more energised at night. I’ve always believed we should follow the lead of our body’s natural rhythms. And I’ve always known that mine is a late cycle.
For many years I had the television on in the mornings – then I stopped switching it on because I realised that it was creating ‘noise’ when I really wanted to be thinking about the day ahead. What a difference it made – more ideas, clearer thinking. Mornings are now my ‘thinking time’.
Recently I’ve started taking a walk early in the morning – well, early for me – 7.30am. It means getting up earlier which my body doesn’t like much. And it takes a bit of dedicated effort, but changing small habits can be quite liberating. I’ve come to appreciate and enjoy my morning walks – they set me up mentally for the day, and get my body & brain going well before I start work.
Why not try changing something in your daily routine as a way of getting yourself mentally prepared ahead of you day?
