Listening to the travel news on Thursday night, I heard a familiar story: Bank holiday weekend traffic chaos.
Despite the fact we know the roads will be slow moving car parks, we are creatures of habit and insist on travelling at peak times on Bank Holidays.
Being creatures of habit reminded me about one of the key points of organisational change and employee engagement.
It’s in our nature to fall into a routine way of doing things. It feels uncomfortable to do things another way and it’s our instinct to keep doing it the old way. When we are trying to break old habits, we have to keep trying, trying and trying. It takes work and sometimes it’s hard work, but with perseverance we can and do change.
[Tip: When changing things in your organisation you need to keep working at it. Don't give up. Give it energy, drive and commitment and things will change.]
